25 Year Picnic11 am to 5 pmSaturday, August 16, 2008. Playground of Dreams area Columbia Park Kennewick, WA. Please contact me if you can help with setup at 10 am ( three 10 foot telescoping canopies, a few folding tables, and various supplies - trekking from my car to the picnic area ). Look for Blue and Green Canopies / Awnings near the Playground of Dreams picnic pavilions. Balloons if I can find green and gold. =) Bring your own food, folding chairs, sunscreen ( tho we should be in plentiful shade ) and beverages. ( If you want beer, etc, please keep it in your car, due to Kennewick parks policies ). Three tables will be provided to hold items under the canopies. Some water bottles, sunscreen, and first-aid supplies will be available. Plus some plastic cups, ice, ice chests, paper plates, napkins, and plastic utensils as spares. No bbq access this year - unless someone brings a small table-top propane grill. Bring or wear your swim-wear if desired for the sprinkler park area near the Playground of Dreams ( should be on / working until Labor Day weekend ). Please let me know if you'll be attending. Contact Dan Morgan [WebMaster] If you can't make it on August 16, and you would like a picnic this year, I have three canopies and three tables that can be used anywhere there is space ( when a Pavilion is not available, as some can book a year in advance, others have to wait until Jan 2nd to book for the following Summer ). Not a problem to have another one in September before the weather gets too much cooler. Just suggest a Saturday to me, and I'll post here and on two social websites, and get feedback on who can attend when so we can schedule for the most people to be able to go. August 16 is before the Benton-Franklin Fair really takes off ( I think, other than a parade ? ). And Labor Day weekend folks travel and many may go to the Tumbleweed Music Festival to see folk music singing and other acts ( and some folks we know from RHS sometimes perform such as Kurt and Kent Mesford, and Shannon Hayes Truex, and I am sure there are more, but this is being typed in a hurry to catch y'all with this update on lunch hours and after dinner ). =) So September is the next best option for a picnic for this year (2008). So, please holler with requests and suggestions! I was not able to sound our class out for ideas until June 16 due to family ( taking care of my Dad ) and had some snags for following up --- but smooth sailing for some time yet is ahead, so whatever I can do as your friendly neighborhood webmaster to help our class get together this Summer and next Summer, and anytime folks ask me to let y'all about something, is what I'm shooting for. More activity info and suggestions are below.
25 Year Meet and Greet
The 25 Year meet and greet will be later in the
Summer or early Fall. I have time for that function
to get feedback on what weekend would be best to
schedule it for
( let me know )
A Homecoming party in association with one of the Bomber games, maybe in October, has been suggested. There's plenty of time to schedule that if folks would like that ( let me know ) A SockHop has also been suggested! There's plenty of time to schedule that if folks would like that ( let me know )
2009 - 25 Year Reunion Plus One
Enough have expressed interest - once the idea of an
informal reunion was started - that to enable more to
go we could borrow from the Year 2001 All-Bombers reunion.
We could have a "25 year plus one" informal reunion in Summer 2009 - as many who went to, and many who missed, our 20 year would like to get together. I couldn't suggest helping reach folks for 25 years until it was almost too late due to a bunch of things I am juggling. But also planning things for 2009 would give more of our class a chance to go. We already have a yearly picnic option as Melanie Orgill (RIP) asked me to start one for friends in 2003, and we always invite our class ( and other classes, too ). So adding a meet and greet and other functions for Summer 2009 is also suggested - as not in a rush to set it up. Plenty of time to plan and reserve sites - and time to get the word out to everyone by snail mail, too. And still far enough away from the 30 year for those who only want to go every 5 or 10 years. =) |

Howdy! The ideas I'll mention to get the ball rolling are: Having one event per month ( more is okay ) or on different weekends so more can attend due to work, vacations, school / college. Such as: July, August, or September, more than one if requested No entry fee if possible, No Host meet and greet social at a local tavern, maybe Ray's in Richland like we did for 2003 ( if available ). It had a good layout for people being able to sit, stand, and mingle. August Picnic The yearly picnic Melanie Orgill Meinhardt (RIP) asked me to start in 2003 will be sometime in August this year ( still setting the date - which I hope to post soon ). Bring your own food, beverage, camp chair. I have three 10 foot canopies that give good shade and are great for shading food and supplies in a shady area in a local park. I'll post more details soon. The canopies offer a way to avoid renting a pavilon - as those are often booked months in advance, and prices have gone up considerably depending on the city. I'll scope out a few parks in the interim to see where the best shade is. =) Golf? Maybe July for cooler weekend, or Aug., Sept. Some activity like golf for those who do. I don't play golf, but I am guessing the West Richland course has good rates? If folks would like to meet and play golf, let me know, and suggest where you can get a good deal for a group, and I would be glad to post the info here on 83bombers.com to help you get together. A boat ride? Cost is a factor for many - and booking in advance may be too late for this Summer ( maybe Aug or Sept? ). This was an idea suggested for the 30 year Reunion, and thought I'd mention it here. With a yearly picnic, we could also have more events, so maybe this one is something to ponder for 2009? I'll post all suggestions ( and these starting ideas ) on the Planning 25 year events page Please send more suggestions to: Dan Morgan |
